The crowd in the Gandhi statue unveiling Function at Attakulangara Central School
| Attakulangara Central School was once a very busy education institution. Famous educationalists had enlightened the days and the students who studied there were societies cream. To mark the 100th anniversary of the school students of STD XB had constructed a Gandhi Statue in front of the school. Time passed and with it declined the golden days of the school. Some anti social elements destroyed Gandhiji’s Statue and due to public hue and cry it was kept covered for almost 4 years. As part of NIMS Harithakom we happened to visit the school and saw the bad shape and disrespect towards Mahatma. Mr. M.S. Faizal Khan MD NIMS Medicity immediately ordered to reconstruct the statue. The full work was completed in one month. We wanted to make the function of unveiling Mahatma’s statue to be a tribute to his life. We contacted Sri Gopinathan Nair, Chairman Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi who extended his full help and support. Next the question was who will unveil the statue. The answer was unanimous-None other than the chief minister of kerala. When contacted he was very much willing to come. We planned to convert the function to be a festival - a remembrance of the past and a foot forward to the future. Hence freedom fighters from all over Trivandrum district was invited and study books were distributed to children from 60 schools. The freedom fighters were honored by ponnada. Mayor Sri Jayan Babu, A Jayakumar VC Kerala University, Surendren Pillai MLA, and other delegates were present. LIVER CARE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
NIMS MEDICITY in Association with TRIVANDRUM MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION coordinated Liver Function Test followed by an awakening lecture on "Alcoholic & Non-Alcoholic Liver Disorders in Men & Women: Early Detection, Prevention & Cure" by Dr. D. Jayakumar M.D., D.M., Hepatologist & Senior Consulting Gastroenterologist, NIMS Medicity, Neyyattinkara at 07.00 PM on Saturday, 7 January 2012 in the Chamber Hall, Lions Club Building, Jawahar Nagar, Vellayambalam, Trivandrum.
A liver with poor health adversely affects the functioning of the total body. Liver diseases are both alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic. As Kerala has the highest rate of consumption of alcohol in the country, alcoholic or alcohol-induced liver diseases like alcoholic fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis and alcoholic cirrhosis are on the rise in Kerala. Primarily attributed to the present day lifestyle, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a spectrum in disease associated with obesity and characterized as an abundance of fat in the liver is diagnosed in individuals of all ages, both men and women. Another major cause of liver cirrhosis in Kerala- like elsewhere- is persistent infection with liver specific viruses known as Hepatitis B and C .These viruses can silently cause ongoing liver damage without causing symptoms and result in cirrhosis.
Women also are affected by liver diseases; the irony is that disorders affecting the liver are generally identified not at the initial stages but at later and in a critical situation where treatments become more complex. Terrific psychosocial burden affecting quality of life in general and coping with ill health as liver patients is a major embarrassment, without proper attention by the patient,
family members and caregivers etc.
Liver disorders, chronic liver diseases and its end result - Cirrhosis in particular- are on the rise in Kerala. Awareness among general population about the causes of liver disorders and how it could be prevented is less, on the other hand. This results in the uncontrolled rise of incidences of Cirrhosis, a potential threat that is looming large and a reality in the next decade or two. It becomes mandatory on the part of our planners & policy makers to intervene urgently to contain the condition.
In the wake of increasing incidences of liver diseases, the NIMS Medicity in association with the governments and others has initiated a massive, pan-Kerala awareness campaign addressing different audiences /segments of the society. It is as part of this initiative that the NIMS Medicity partnered with the Trivandrum Management Association (TMA), and organized a liver function test and an awakening lecture on liver diseases in Kerala.

VALIYAKULAM POND RECLAIMING 2009-2010
Environment is the prime concern of current days. Many water ways, paddy fields and forest has been converted to big concrete fields. Trees were destroyed, more roads were created, and huge buildings were built up, number of motor vehicles and industries increased. Life became fast and man forgot nature. Nature reacted as floods, drought, volcanic eruptions and tsunami. Atmosphere and its gas concentrations changed; there were news of ozone layer depletion. It came to a state that if we don’t take enough measure to help our nature, the whole humanity would crush under its anger. Many initiatives to save nature and thus to keep humanity alive were taken up all over the globe.
NIMS Medicity, highly committed to nature and society stood up front in the environmental activities. The NIMS Harithakom project was introduced to plant and preserve 1, 00,000 fruit trees. It also conducted Seminars, Awareness campaigns and Rallies for creating environmental awareness. NIMS Medicity associates with all major activities conducted in Trivandrum city.
Chenkal Valiyakulam was once an enormous pond providing fresh water to the public and a habitat to innumerable living organisms. With time its glory also declined. It became a waste land full of weeds and mud. Gandhi Mithra mandalam Neyyattinkara under the eminent leadership of Sri Gopinatihan Nair, Chairman Gandhi Smaraka nidhi, took up a project to reclaim the pond. NIMS Medicity stood with Gandhi mithra mandalam for the success of the project. Now the pond is reclaimed and is one of the chief tourist attraction areas. It has come back to life and water sports are arranged in it. NIMS Medicity Sponsored a Smrithi mandapam in rememberence of The Mahatma. A boat race competition was conducted and ever rolling trophy, sponsored by NIMS Medicity was presented
